Jaw Muscle Relaxing Injections

How does it work?

A natural, purified protein is injected with a very fine needle into specific areas of the jaw muscles. It causes the jaw muscles to relax.

What are the results?

It takes up to 1 to 2 weeks to begin to see the results of the treatment. The effects of the treatment last for about 4 - 6 months. Over several treatments some of our patients find they need injections less often up to 8 months.

Does it hurt?

Most people find the treatment to be reasonably comfortable, and an anaesthetic is not required. A topical anaesthetic cream however is available if requested which can be helpful.

Are there any side effects?

In the vast majority of cases there are no side effects and there is no downtime involved. Occasionally, temporary effects such as weakness of chewing may be noticed but this is usually not significant. There can occasionally be a bruise or local skin infection at the site of the injection.

Is it safe?

The substance used in our jaw relaxing injections has been used to treat a wide range of medical conditions for many years. It was first approved for use in Australia in 1993. It has been successfully used in cosmetic medicine for around two decades.
