Melasma

Melasma, also known as Chloasma is a tanned blotchy skin discoloration on the face. It can effect anyone especially pregnant women and women taking the oral contraceptive pill. Common signs are dark irregular hyperpigmentation skin on upper cheeks, nose, lips and forehead.

Cause - it is thought to be the stimulation of melanocytes (cells in the epidermal layer of the skin) when the skin is exposed to the sun.

Treatment - in some clients it can disappear over a period of months after giving birth or stopping the pill. The Revlite ND Yag laser has been proven to eliminate Melasma. the Laser reduces the production of Melanin synthesis. The 1064 wavelength penetrates deeper into the dermis and is absorbed by the melanin. A course of 10 or more treatments weekly or fortnightly is recommended, then monthly maintenance.

Patients must stay out of the sun and wear a SPF 50+ protection. The Revlite is a safe treatment that can be used on all skin types. Not only is the Revlite the most gentle skin treatment for Melasma, it also rejuvenates the skin making you look younger.
